Founded in 1949, NewView Oklahoma has been a beacon of hope and empowerment across Oklahoma for those living with blindness and low vision. Through their mission, they “strive to restore the independence that so many fear they may have lost.”
Originally the Oklahoma League for the Blind, NewView quickly secured a partnership with Tinker Air Force Base, securing work for those who are blind or living with low vision. Over 75 years later, NewView is Oklahoma’s largest employer of people who are blind, providing work to 113 individuals in 2024.
Nationally recognized, NewView has received many awards and honors for the work they do, including the Apollo Award in 2015 through the American Optometric Association.
In 1999, NewView Oklahoma opened its endowment fund, which has provided sustainable annual income that only continues to grow as the years go by. NewView has also received numerous grants from OCCF, applying to nearly all our Community Grant Programs and strategically growing its arts programming and bolstering initiatives that improve independence and quality of life for people of all ages who have low vision or who are blind.
Supporting programs like Beep Baseball, a community garden and their More Opportunities through Vocational Evaluation (MOVE) program, NewView is going beyond the workforce, supporting their clients in discovering new passions and innovative ways of continuing the work they love, providing opportunities that may have been missed otherwise.
