Practical Giving Tools for 2025

Practical Giving Tools for 2025

As we look ahead to what 2025, we know we can expect change, but what and where is yet to unfold. We yearn for certainty, and at OCCF, we’ve leaned on a variety of tools to provide that certainty for more than five decades.

The Donor-Advised Fund: The Swiss Army Knife of Giving

A donor-advised fund is a dexterous tool that can solve for a myriad of issues:

  • Tax deductions: Does your charitably-inclined client need a tax deduction to offset a windfall of income? Do you need to rebalance an appreciated stock portfolio to help your client prepare for retirement? The donor-advised fund can help.
  • Strategic Planning & Flexibility: Donor-advised funds allow assets to grow tax-free. They can grow in perpetuity to make a lasting charitable impact and meet the immediate needs of nonprofits.
  • Diverse Giving: An OCCF donor-advised fund helps streamline annual record keeping. All the details of your charitable gifts are easy to find in our donor portal.
  • Local knowledge for local impact: The staff at OCCF shares your love of this community. Our knowledge of local needs is unmatched. We live and work alongside you and are highly engaged with local nonprofit partners. It is our joy to help you accomplish your goals and meet critical needs for Oklahomans.
  • Estate Planning Tool: Many advisors work with OCCF to create testamentary donor-advised funds or funds during life. This important giving tool can create scholarships, endowments and opportunities for a legacy of family philanthropy.

Nonprofit Endowments: Sustain Your Client’s Favorite Cause

Did you know OCCF serves more than 400 nonprofits via our Nonprofit Endowment Program?

By creating a new nonprofit endowment fund or supporting an existing one, your client can provide reliable, ongoing support to the nonprofits they care about, making it easy for others to give and nonprofits to grow their support. And, with the support of the Kirkpatrick Family Fund and other generous donors, gifts for endowments can be leveraged through matching grants.

Your clients can even create niche funds to support needs within existing nonprofit endowments. For example, your client could create a specific fund earmarked to pay for free or reduced-cost spay/neuter programs at a local human society. Get specific with your giving goals!

Consider Split-Interest Gifts for tax deductions, income diversification AND charitable impact:

    • Charitable Gift Annuity rates have increased, which provides a reliable source of income while making a charitable contribution.
    • Charitable Remainder Trusts can help the right donor maintain a stream of income and get a material tax deduction through a gift of highly-appreciated and diverse types of assets.
    • OCCF’s planned gift calculator can help you deliver a basic exploration of various advanced giving ideas to your clients.

These tools are opportunities to form deeper relationships with your clients by uncovering motives, dynamics and values that speak to the core of who someone is. They present an opportunity to truly know the client, and when a client feels known and valued, the professional relationship endures.  That’s the kind of certainty we’re all aiming for in 2025 and beyond.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation is your local resource for local giving.  Please reach out anytime you are working with a client who is charitably inclined.   We can help navigate the impact of strategic giving now or via an estate plan.
