Celebrating 20 Years of Lawton-area Philanthropy

Lawton Community Foundation President David Towe and Trustee Emeritus Gene Love present grant checks to Lorene Miller, Center for Creative Living and Ron Javis, Lawton Rotary Institute.

For 20 years, the Lawton Community Foundation has helped residents in southwest Oklahoma unite in philanthropy by promoting sustainability for nonprofits. Through the investment and support of our charitable organization endowment funds, scholarships and grant programs, Lawton Community Foundation donors are creating better opportunities for their neighbors and shaping Lawton and the surrounding area for the better.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, at our annual distribution event, more than 50 charitable organizations benefiting Lawton and the surrounding area experienced the power of endowment as they received a total of $261,183 in distributions and grants.

Earlier in fiscal year 2019, the generosity of Lawton-area donors allowed the Lawton Community Foundation to award more than $75,000 in community and matching grants to 22 charitable organizations and more than $28,000 in scholarships to 14 Lawton-area high school graduates.

Since our establishment in 1999, the Lawton Community Foundation has reinvested more than $5.4 million in the community through scholarships, grants and endowment distributions to charitable organizations.

“Because of the support from the Lawton Community Foundation, we are able to grow our program and serve more meals to senior citizens,” said Lorene Miller, executive director at Center for Creative Living, which is a $5,000 community grant recipient this year. “The provision of healthy meals and evidence-based advice such as nutrition education are important and lifesaving.”

We’re excited to share more about the Lawton Community Foundation’s impact throughout the area in our 2019 Annual Report. As you read it, we hope you are inspired to continue thinking of how you can make a difference for the Lawton community.
