The staff and trustees of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation send our deepest condolences to the family of Dan Hogan III on the passing of Mr. Hogan.
Mr. Hogan served on the OCCF board of trustees from 1984 to 1993 and as president from 1985 to 1988. He also served on the Kirkpatrick Family Affiliated Fund from 1990 to 1998 and the Oklahoma Air Space Museum Affiliated Fund from 1991 to 1994.
A graduate of Classen High School and the University of Oklahoma, Mr. Hogan was an Air Force pilot, a stockbroker and a bank officer. He and Sarah Maddox Hogan were married in 1955, and in 1972, purchased the Journal Record Publishing Company, a multifaceted media company specializing in business, legislative and legal-related information. After publishing The Journal Record for more than two decades, they sold the paper in 1995. An active supporter of many education and library organizations, Sarah Hogan served as a member of the Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma.
The Hogans established the Sarah and Dan Hogan III Fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation in 1979 and generously supported numerous educational and nonprofit organizations in Oklahoma including Casady School, Oklahoma City University, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the Oklahoma City Ballet, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Lyric Theatre, the Oklahoma Science Museum and the Oklahoma City Zoo.
Mr. Hogan was preceded in death by Mrs. Hogan in December 2024, and their family legacy lives on through their many acts of service, philanthropy and advocacy for higher education, the arts, economic development and civic engagement.
A memorial service will celebrate Mr. Hogan’s life on Saturday, February 15, at 1:00 p.m. at the Nichols Hills United Methodist Church, 1212 Bedford Drive, Nichols Hills, Oklahoma.
