Home > Classroom Teacher Scholarship Grants
Shamrock Bancshares and the Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation sponsor a scholarship program that gives classroom teachers an opportunity for further study and training. The purpose of the program is to enhance the quality of classroom education by helping teachers receive advanced training and develop additional skills that will improve their ability to work with students in the classroom.
Any upcoming deadlines to be determined.
1. Study towards an advanced degree at an accredited college or graduate school. The study program should be in education or in a subject area that can be taught in the classroom. Classes should be part of a program that will lead to an advanced degree.
2. Special courses in specific subjects or technical training in specific areas which are directly related to teachers’ classroom subject or area of interaction with students. An accredited institution authorized for appropriate continuing education credit should provide the program.
3. Participation in specific teacher training opportunities which will enhance the teacher’s ability to work with students in the classroom. These may be provided by arts organizations, research or medical organizations, or libraries or technical training organizations.
Any program which directly affects the classroom activities will be considered but preference will be given to teachers studying in the following fields: visual or performing arts, English and language arts, reading, mathematics, natural and physical science, foreign language and computer science.
Programs that will not be considered include education and training for teachers pursuing school administration positions.
Scholarships will be awarded for tuition, fees and books for any graduate level program that leads to a degree and program fees and expenses for other programs. Fees for travel and living expenses will be considered for those programs of short duration for which travel is required. Travel expenses for commuting will not be considered. It is expected that the training programs will occur during the summer vacation but other programs during the school year will be considered. The maximum award for any one-year will be $1,000. A commitment for two complete years of classroom teaching in the targeted counties following the training will be required.
