Oklahoma City Community Foundation awards grants to 68 Mobile Meal providers
January 14, 2009 – The Trustees of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation recently awarded $22,100 in grants to 68 churches who provide meals to home-bound elderly through Mobile Meals of Oklahoma County. The grants will be used to offset the cost of food and transportation.
“We truly appreciate the commitment from these churches and their congregations to support Mobile Meals of Oklahoma County,” says Nancy B. Anthony, executive director, Oklahoma City Community Foundation. “Not only are they providing important nutritional food, they daily visit by the caring volunteers is an important contact for many of the people they serve.”
“This is such a wonderful thing to happen and very needed with today’s economy,” says Carolyn Rosnick, Mobile Meals project coordinator. “With costs going up on everything, these grants came at a very good time. There is such a need for this type of service and we’re always looking for more volunteers and church sites.”
The amount of each individual grant varied based upon the number of meals provided by each site which range from 20 to 100. The grant amounts ranged from $500 to $1,000. “We know that the dollar value of the service they provide is much greater than the grant, but the Trustees wanted to express their appreciation and encourage the ongoing assistance Mobile Meals provides to the elderly in the county,” Anthony adds.
The grants were made through the Elderly Services Fund that represents a number of endowments that were established to support services for older citizens.
Founded in 1969, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation is a 501c3 public charity that works with individuals, companies and organizations to create endowments that will benefit the benefit now and in the future. For more information, visit www.occf.org.
