LIFE Initiative

The Literacy is For Everyone (LIFE) Initiative is no longer actively funding literacy-based activities. During 2005-2012 the LIFE assisted organizations by helping to provide opportunities for adults and families to read, write and speak English at a functional level with the goal of self-sufficiency and improved quality of life. Goals of the Initiative were:

  1. Build an infrastructure for all individuals to speak and learn English for adults and families.
  2. Provide an opportunity for economic independence and for dealing with basic medical, legal and consumer issues.
  3. Create awareness in the community for literacy skills and integrate literacy into social services, job training and other rehabilitation programs.

GetReadingOklahoma.org

Since 2009, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation has provided statewide access to an adult learning educational series as part of our GetReadingOklahoma.org program. The series includes two programs - GED Connection and TV411 -- that each offers numerous 30-minute segments. We continue to partner with our original partners Cox Communications and OETA to broadcast the programs statewide and to support a toll-free telephone number that the public can call to inquire about literacy services in their community. We will continue to provide this programming through 2013. To learn more about GetReadingOklahoma.org, click here.
