During Fiscal Year 2012, the Lawton Community Foundation was pleased to award $58,062 to 20 area charitable organizations through its Community Grants and Matching Grants programs. The Community Grants program awards grants up to $5,000 to support projects that will improve the quality of life and provide opportunities for citizens to improve themselves and their communities. The Matching Grants program awards matching dollars up to $4,000 in a matching grant for up to $5,000 in gifts made to existing endowments at the Lawton Community Foundation. Listed below are the FY2012 grant recipients.
Community Grants - $20,000 awarded
Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Plaza - $ 1,500 for memorials at the plaza in honor of 18 Medal of Honor recipients and the first black graduate of the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.
CASA of Southwest Oklahoma - $3,500 to recruit and train new volunteers.
Family Promise of Lawton - $1,500 to provide Lawton Area Transit System bus passes for Family Promise of Lawton guests to allow them to attend medical and other appointments and to look for employment.
Friends of Fort Sill - $1,500 for a new educational exhibit design at the Fort Sill National Historic Landmark and Museum and to help support the new Air Defense Artillery Museum programs.
Giddy-Up 'N Go - $1,500 to purchase new computer equipment and horse supplies.

Humane Society of Lawton-Comanche County - $2,000 to support a collaborative spay and neuter program for cats owned by low-income citizens.
Lawton Community Theatre - $2,000 for the purchase of new computers and software.
Lawton Public School Foundation - $2,500 for the purchase of two SMART Boards and projectors.
Museum of the Great Plains - $2,000 to provide free admission for Lawton area school groups and support visits by museum educators to area classrooms.
Operation Homefront Oklahoma - $2,000 to provide holiday food boxes for enlisted military families in the Lawton area.

Lawton Community Foundation
The Lawton Community Foundation was established in 1999 to support the current and future charitable interests of the Lawton community and surrounding areas. The Lawton Community Foundation gives back to the community through community grants, a scholarship program and working with nonprofit organizations to create charitable endowments. The Lawton Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. Under this structure, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation provides all of the administrative and investment services for the Lawton Community Foundation.
