FinishMyDegreeOKC.org is a project of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation and is a result of our participation in the Talent Dividend Prize competition.
What is the Talent Dividend Prize?
The Talent Dividend Prize is a $1 million prize to be awarded to the city that exhibits the greatest increase in the number of post-secondary degrees granted per one thousand population over a four-year period and achieves its Talent Dividend. This $1 million prize will be used to launch a national promotional campaign centered around talent development for the winning city. There are 57 cities in the United States who are participating in the competition. Each of the cities developed and implemented a Talent Dividend Prize program for their metropolitan area.
Currently, the Oklahoma City metropolitan area has a college attainment rate of 27.6 percent (that’s citizens 18 years or older with at least an associate’s degree). If this rate was to increase by 1 percent to 28.6 percent, the result would be an increase of $900 million in additional personal income each year.
In the Oklahoma City area, we are fortunate to have more than 20 accredited schools, colleges and universities. Many of these offer specific degree completion plans for adults who have some college credits but no degree. Through FinishMyDegreeOKC.org, we have compiled contact information for each of these institutions and in most cases, have included an email link and telephone number for a staff contact. Our goal was to make FinishMyDegreeOKC.org a one-stop shop offering links and relevant resources for returning adult college students.
