Alternatives to Private Foundations
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation offers several endowment fund options that provide an alternative for donors who are considering establishing a private foundation. The options described below offer greater tax advantages and fewer restrictions than private foundations.
Affiliated Funds
An Affiliated Fund is a 509(a)(3) supporting organization of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation and offers a donor the type of involvement available through a private foundation but without the many restrictions. In addition, the administrative support including required reports we provide makes a Family Affiliated Fund a very cost-effective option. Affiliated Funds can be established with a minimum gift of $500,000. For more information, please contact Nancy Anthony at 405/606-2900.

Legacy Funds
A Legacy Fund requires a minimum fund balance of $10,000. The fund balance is invested in the Oklahoma City Community Foundation’s general investment pool. Legacy Fund advisors, who can be the donor or advisors designated by the donor, can recommend grants to charitable organizations and projects. Donors may want to start a Legacy Fund and develop it over a period of years and have the ability to recommend grants as they’re building their fund balance. Donors can also name successive advisors to continue recommending distributions from the fund. If successive advisors are not available, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation Trustees will continue to donor’s charitable wishes.
